For a quick overview, check the Clients video guide.
Clients are the individuals or organizations for whom your team works on projects. Maintaining an accurate client list helps keep your projects and reporting organized.
Add a client
You can add a client in two places in Float, depending on your workflow and access level.
1) Directly from a project’s settings while creating or editing a project.
Open the project side panel.
Navigate to the Info section.
Type the new client's name into the Client field.
This action can be performed by all the team members with project edit rights.
📝Note: Adding a client from a project automatically adds them to your team's master client list in Team settings.
2) In Team settings > Clients.
The Account Owner and Admins can add clients centrally in Team settings. This is the best approach if you want to set up a structured client list before creating new projects.
Go to Team settings > Clients.
Type the new client's name and click Add.
Assign a client to a project
To assign a new or existing client to a project:
Go to the Projects page.
Open the project side panel.
Navigate to the Info tab.
Enter or select the client’s name in the Client field.
If the client already exists, select them from the dropdown list. If not, typing their name will create a new client.
Manage clients
Clients are managed by the Account Owner and the Admins in Team settings > Clients. Keeping this list up to date helps maintain clean project data and accurate reporting.
In this section, you can:
View the full list of existing clients
Add new clients
Edit existing clients
Delete clients that are no longer needed
See the number of projects assigned to each client
Edit the client's name
To update a client’s name:
Go to Team settings > Clients.
Mouse over the client’s name.
Click the pencil icon.
Make your changes.
Click the checkmark icon to save.
Changes apply across all associated projects.
Delete a client
To remove a client:
Go to Team settings > Clients.
Mouse over the client’s name.
Click the trash bin icon.
📝 Note: Deleting a client removes them from any projects they are assigned to. This action is irreversible and cannot be undone.
View projects assigned to each client
In Team settings > Clients, you can view how many projects are assigned to each client. Clicking the number redirects you to the Projects page and automatically applies the Client is filter to show only projects for that client. This makes it easy to quickly review and manage related projects.
On the Projects page, you can sort projects by client by clicking the Client column header. This is the fastest way to identify any projects without a client assigned.
Client report
You can view client-level reporting data in the Projects Report.
Go to the Report page.
Open the Projects Report.
Click the Clients tab.
In the Clients tab, projects are grouped by client and display the budget per client (if the same budget type is selected for all their projects) and their scheduled (and logged, if on the Pro or Enterprise plans) data. You can also use the Client is filter to display projects for specific client(s) only.
