What's changing?
Float's left navigation sidebar has been reorganized:
Team settings has moved under the company name dropdown at the top of the sidebar and been renamed Company settings.
Notifications now appear at the top of the sidebar, next to the company name.
Log team has been moved from the Schedule dropdown to the sidebar.
Log time has been renamed Log my time.
A new Data studio section has been added. It is visible to the Account Owners and Admins only, and it houses:
Roles (formerly in Team settings > Roles & rates) - this is where roles and cost rates live,
Clients (formerly in Team settings > Clients),
Rate cards - a new section, where role-based bill rates now live.

The new sidebar is visible by default and can be collapsed or expanded as needed. All existing features remain available — the update changes where things are located, not how they work. Pricing is unaffected across all plans.
When is this change going live?
The updated navigation is rolling out gradually across all accounts in July 2026. If your account hasn't been updated yet, it will be within the next few weeks.
Why did the navigation change?
The updated navigation is designed to make Float easier to use as your organization grows. It creates a clearer structure for existing features and makes room for new capabilities — starting with Data studio, which brings roles, clients, and rate cards into one place.
Who's impacted?
The general layout change applies to all Float users across all plans. What you see in the sidebar depends on your access rights:
Account Owners and Admins will also see a new item, Data studio, added to the sidebar.
*If a Member is given permission to view everyone or specific department(s), they also get access to the Log team page, where they can view - but not edit - the logged time of those team members.
📝Note: Dashboard, Log team and Log my time are only available to teams on Pro or Enterprise plans. Log my time is only visible to people, as guest users cannot log their own time.
What are the new items in the sidebar?
Data studio is a centralized space for managing the foundational data that drives your team's delivery — clients, roles, and rate cards. Instead of maintaining this information across different settings, you can now manage it in one structured place. Data studio is only available to Account Owners and Admins. If you believe you should have access, check your permission level with your Float Account Owner or Admin. If you have the right permissions but still don't see it, your account may not have been updated yet — it's rolling out gradually in July 2026.
Rate cards live under Data studio. They let you define bill rates in one place and apply them consistently across clients and projects. Instead of setting rates project by project, you create a card once — whether that's a standard rack rate, a client-specific price, or a multi-currency setup — and assign it when setting up a fee-based budget. Rates are managed centrally, so there's no drift across projects and no second-guessing which rates to use.
With the introduction of rate cards, your existing role-based bill rates will be automatically migrated to a default rate card — no action needed on your part. Person-level bill rates and cost rates will remain untouched.
Can I go back to the old layout?
The updated navigation is the new default for all Float accounts, and it's not possible to revert to the previous layout. We appreciate that it can take some getting used to — the Float support team is happy to help if you need assistance finding your way around.
