You can connect Linear and Float using Zapier (no code required). Once connected, you can automate how data moves between the two tools in either direction: from Linear into Float, or from Float back into Linear.
Setting up the integration
To set up your Zapier connection, you will need:
Access to the Float Account Owner account.
A Linear account with the relevant team and project access.
A Zapier account. Check Zapier's pricing page for current plan limits and features. Some automation patterns require a paid plan.
Creating your own Zaps
Use Zapier Copilot
With Zapier Copilot, you can describe the workflow you want in plain language, for example, "when a new issue is created in Linear, create a matching project in Float," and Copilot drafts the Zap for you, including field mappings. Review it, connect your accounts, and turn it on.
Build manually
If you prefer to configure the Zap yourself:
Open zapier.com/apps/float/integrations/linear and click Connect these apps.
Connect your Linear account using your Linear login details.
Choose your trigger — the event that kicks off the automation. Triggers can run in either direction: start from a Linear event (such as a new issue or a project update) to update something in Float, or start from a Float event (such as a new project or updated allocation) to push data back into Linear.
Connect your Float account — you will need to sign in as the Account Owner.
Define the action — what should happen in the destination tool when the trigger fires, such as creating a project or adding a person.
Run a test to confirm data is flowing correctly, then turn the Zap on.
Advanced settings
For more complex integrations, you can:
Retrieve IDs via the APIs of both platforms.
Use Zapier's Test step to verify field mappings.
Use Zapier Tables or custom fields in Linear to maintain accurate mappings across systems.
📝Note: The Float API documentation is available at developer.float.com. You can use API endpoints to create and update projects, people, and allocations in Float as part of your Zap workflow.
